On a rain-soaked, windswept night at Aviator Sports Complex, NY Empire FC went on the road and came away with a gritty 3-1 win over Academias Barcelona SC NYC in their second game of the season.

The visitors wasted no time making their mark. In just the 6th minute, centerback Kendell Thomas rose above the defense to head home a corner kick, putting NYEFC up 1-0 early. The challenging weather didn’t stop the pace of play, but it did turn the match into a physical, hard-fought contest.

After holding onto their lead through halftime, NY Empire struck again shortly after the break. Emgi Gousse made it 2-0 in the 49th minute, finishing off a sharp buildup to give NYEFC breathing room.
Academias Barcelona SC NYC responded with pressure and eventually pulled one back, making it 2-1 and setting up a tense final stretch.

But in the 85th minute, Lenny Lopez ended the comeback hopes with a composed finish to secure the 3-1 win. His late goal ensured NYEFC would head home with all three points and a perfect 2-0 record to start the season.

Now, all eyes turn to Week 3, where NY Empire FC will travel to face 2024 league champions NY Renegades FC in what promises to be a high-stakes showdown. Head coach Max Ferro has been dialed in all week, preparing his squad for what could be their toughest test yet.

“The guys are locked in,” said Ferro. “We know what kind of team the Renegades are, and we’re ready for the battle.”
With momentum building and confidence high, NY Empire FC will look to keep their perfect start intact and make a statement against the defending champs.
